‘Harry Potter’ Actor Who Defended JK Rowling Reveals His Favorite Moment From ‘Deathly Hallows Part 2’

Nowadays, it’s uncommon to hear one of the numerous Harry Potter performers genuinely share their experiences on the sets of any of the eight Harry Potter films, except Harry Potter’s 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts (2022).

After all, J.K. Rowling, the author of the Wizarding World, released several tweets that were widely criticized and labeled as “transphobic,” which led to controversy surrounding Hogwarts in recent years like a swarm of Dementors.
Since then, many Harry Potter “alumni” have been asked about their opinions of Rowling. The majority criticized her outright or expressed disapproval by restating their support for transgender rights. Actor Jason Isaacs is a select handful who has defended JK Rowling.

Jason Isaacs portrays the evil Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, the father of Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton), possibly the most unpleasant Slytherin in all of Hogwarts, and Harry Potter’s second mortal opponent (Daniel Radcliffe).
Isaacs made his film debut in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in 2002. He then starred in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in 2005, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in 2007, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 in the last installment (2011).

Isaacs recently discussed his time working on the final installment of the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, recalling a particularly crucial moment. He was one of many Harry Potter actors to address the topic.

Isaacs says that the moments spent filming the pivotal Battle of Hogwarts are some of his favorite ones from the set in an interview with The List. He stated:

“I recall when we were filming the massive Hogwarts combat scene at the end of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2… We could not take pictures because it rained for a long time. Every day, we would commute to work and idle away. People would have returned to their trailers if it had been an American movie, but since it wasn’t, we all sat in a large tent, hunched around heaters with a tea urn full of tea that was getting more and more solid and in which the spoons would stand up.
Isaacs continued by mentioning some of his co-stars in particular, including Helen McCrory, who tragically passed away in 2017 and played his on-screen wife Narcissa Malfoy in the Harry Potter films:

It was pretty chilly as people exchanged filthy stories about the entertainment industry while laughing incoherently and listening to Julie Walters tell tales about her pig farm. I wished the rain would continue for weeks. I wanted it to go on forever. I also recall being there and hearing someone say, “I don’t know how you’ve f***ing taken this for ten years.” It may have been the late, fantastic, brilliant, and funny Helen McCrory. I am unable to share.

Isaacs commented on the JK Rowling controversy in an interview published in The Telegraph earlier this year. The actor, who is 58, said:

“There’s a lot of information concerning Jo… Speaking about trans issues makes me uncomfortable because they are such an unbelievable minefield. People should be aware that, through her charity Lumos, she invested a significant portion of her fortune towards making the world a better place for hundreds of thousands of vulnerable children. That is not meant as a counterargument.

Even though JK Rowling has stated some extremely contentious things, Isaacs noted that many Harry Potter actors, including himself, have witnessed “on the ground the work they [Lumos] do” and that he was not going to “jump to stab her in the front, or rear,” before speaking with her.
Warner Bros. has since backed the British author JK Rowling, 56, although several Harry Potter stars have spoken out against her. The latest Fantastic Beasts movie has performed poorly at the box office, so there may yet be a danger for the Wizarding World.

As a result, Harry Potter may undergo a “reset” at some point in the future, or, at least, the previously anticipated Fantastic Beasts films won’t be released. Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022) delivered a middling success at the global box office while failing to wow fans and moviegoers.
