The most intimate friends are also the ones who seem to know what others in our social circle can’t see. Lily knew Robin was not someone who does the mutual breakup thing – even if she wasn’t really into someone she needed to win a break-up. And sadly she still had feelings for Don, which only meant that she would do something nasty and unpredictable to try and get his attention. So when Robin shows up for drinks one day and lies about having ended things amicably, Lily sees right through the lie which also gave way to one of the most hysterical quotes in the show, “Where the poop, Robin?”

Lily and Robin’s make-out session was one of the most adorable moments on the show. Lily has secretly wanted to make out with Robin since she has known her, and it’s no secret. It’s a running gag in the show that whenever Lily gets a little too drunk she propositions Robin to make out with her.

When Lily Found Out About Robin And Barney

Fans were surprised when they discovered that Lily approves of Robin dating barney, especially because Lily had made no secret of the fact that she detests aspects of Barneys behaviour. Nevertheless, Lily does want Barney and Robin in her life as friends so it made a lot of sense to her that they both would be together. Lily has always rooted for the relationship and had even convinced each of them when they were in two minds about their own relationship. One of the best moments on the show occurred when the gang discovered Barney and Robin making out alone, and Lily totally cheers them on.

When Lily Tried To Hype Robin Up In Front Of Her Ex

To be fair Lily has been Robin’s biggest hype woman, but in presence of a toxic ex Lily obviously pumped up her efforts and it totally worked. When Robin’s first boyfriend from Canada comes to visit her in New York and is revealed to be a jerk, Lily steps in to help Robin ‘win’ the breakup.

When Lily Played Robin’s Surrogate Mum

When Robin is unreasonably attracted to Simon who’s just trying to use Robin to further his musical career, Lily puts her foot down and forbids Robin to see him again. A hilarious argument ensues where Lily and Marshall try ‘parenting’ Robin and Robin behaves like a rebellious teenager who’s mad at her parents for messing with her life. Marshall even says, “we were once young and in love too.” But this is not the first time Lily has tried to be a guardian figure for Robin, and in fact, has often been a mother-figure in Robin’s life whenever she needed her.

It takes a really astute friend to know when something is not right with us, and for Robin, Lily was that BFF. When she was hurting after her breakup with Barney and the latter would casually flirt with other women not asking Robin into consideration Lily decided to do something about it.

Lily was in many ways a moral yardstick for the group because she tried to keep a balance between the inter-personal relationships. So when she spots Robin flirting with Barney she obviously asks Robin about it because they would put the easy dynamic of the group in jeopardy. This was quite an underrated and brave move because most people do not want to be the bad guy especially when the personal lives of their friends are involved. But Lily never shied away from the tough conversations.
