The Batman star Robert Pattinson has revealed that he once not only took his stalker out to dinner, but managed to scare them off afterwards.
To start off, I want to stress that following someone around is not a good way to secure a date with them. Stalking is considered an offence in a lot of places and is creepy in every single case, and just because Pattinson took his stalker to dinner it doesn’t make it okay.
With that being said, the person in this particular scenario probably felt like all their Christmases had come at once when Pattinson asked her out to dinner.
The incident took place in 2008, the same year Twilight was released and three years after Pattinson’s character Cedric Diggory fell victim to the Dark Lord in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The actor was filming in Spain at the time, and told Creme Magazine he had a ‘stalker’ who ‘stood outside of [his] apartment every day for weeks’.
The determined woman remained in place ‘all day every day’, and Pattinson found himself ‘so bored and lonely’ during his time there that he ‘went out and had dinner with her’.
It’s a far better outcome for the stalker than being arrested, but it seems that Pattinson didn’t turn out to be the man of her dreams as she ended up making a run for it after their meal came to an end.
The actor explained: “I just complained about everything in my life and she never came back. People get bored of me in, like, two minutes.”
Though Pattinson evidently didn’t think he had much excitement to offer at the time, he has gone on to take part in numerous successful blockbusters, including the remainder of the wildly popular Twilight franchise and Christopher Nolan’s Tenet.
Arguably one of his most exciting projects to date came this year, when he introduced the world to a new Bruce Wayne in Matt Reeves’ The Batman.
The actor has previously described the role as ‘the hardest thing’ he’s ever done, telling GQ he was ‘so incredibly busy the whole time’ and that the film was ‘super high pressure’.
Far from heading out to dinner with fans, Pattinson largely shot the film at night on a set which was a ‘bubble within a bubble’ on the outskirts of London.
When he emerged after filming, he recalled looking ‘really, really, really dead afterward’.
“I just looked at a photo of myself from April and I looked green,” he said.
I suppose if boring someone out of stalking doesn’t succeed in putting them off, then walking around looking like a corpse is a good alternative option.
