Rapping always looked like it might sound a bum note for double Oscar nominee Joaquin Phoenix, but then it turned out he was only joking – essaying the role of a film star who had lost his way in last year’s mockumentary I’m Still Here. Now Tom Felton, who plays villainous schoolboy Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, has signalled his own intention to re-invent himself and embark on a hip-hop career – at least, according to the Sun.
“I was thinking of doing some N-Dubz-style stuff. I am looking to get into the grime rap UK scene,” Felton reportedly told the tabloid. “I’m going to change my image – backward caps, the lot,” he added, reportedly citing Dappy from N-Dubz as his inspiration. “It’s still under wraps so I can’t really talk about it,” added Felton.
Whether the 23-year-old actor was being entirely serious about his future musical endeavours remains to be seen, but Felton certainly has the musical chops for the career change. A number of videos posted on YouTube depict him singing and playing the guitar, apparently performing his own slice-of-life style compositions, which have a hint of Arctic Monkeys about them.
Felton told the Sun he has a record deal with an independent label. In the meantime, he does not appear to be hanging up his acting boots just yet, and will appear in sci-fi reboot Rise of the Planet of the Apes next month.
