Millie Bobby Brown’s salary for Enola Holmes 2 has been revealed. The upcoming film’s predecessor, Enola Holmes, welcomed praise from critics, garnering a 91% score on Rotten Tomatoes upon its 2020 release on Netflix. The mystery film is based on the first book in the young adult fiction series of the same name by Nancy Springer. It follows Brown’s titular character, the teenage sister of Mycroft (Sam Claflin) and Sherlock Holmes (Henry Cavill), as she ventures to London to find her missing mother (Helena Bonham Carter). Enola ends up on more of an adventure than she bargained for, however, linking up with a runaway lord named Tewksbury (Louis Partridge) as the two attempt to solve a mystery.
Upon the film’s release, Brown and director Harry Bradbeer both acknowledged their interest in developing a sequel. Less than a year later, it was announced that Enola Holmes 2 was officially on the way, with Bradbeer returning as director, Jack Thorne returning as writer, and Brown and Cavill reprising their roles. Netflix officially revealed the Enola Holmes 2 synopsis in February, sharing that film would chronicle Enola’s first official case. In addition to Brown and Cavill’s return, Enola Holmes 2 will also feature returns from Partridge, Bonham Carter, Adeel Akhtar, and Susie Wokoma, alongside newcomers Sharon Duncan-Brewster and David Thewlis.
While little else has been revealed about Enola Holmes 2, a new report from Variety discloses that Brown’s salary for the film is an expected $10 million. Among other actors in the report, Brown is in the top 20 highest actor salaries of this year, and second among women (Margot Robbie’s Barbie salary is $12.5 million). The report also states that studio executives admit that the salary offers at Netflix and other streaming services have led some actors to raise their quotes.
Enola Holmes looking worried
Although Brown’s filmography may be smaller than her A-list peers, the actress has made a huge impact in very short amount of time, so this impressive salary offer makes sense. Since 2016, Brown has proved her ability to lead a TV franchise in Stranger Things and a movie franchise in Enola Holmes, but also tackle a producing role at the age of 18. What’s more, the actor clearly has a strong relationship with Netflix, having now starred in two of its major original projects. However, Brown’s Enola Holmes 2 salary is still significantly less than some of her fellow Netflix stars, as Chris Hemsworth will make $20 million from his return in Extraction 2.
Along with receiving many positive reviews, Enola Holmes is one of Netflix’s most-watched original movies, making the upcoming sequel a highly-anticipated project. Considering the recent news that Netflix lost nearly 1 million subscribers in three months, upcoming projects like Enola Holmes 2 could answer the streaming service’s call for redemption. With a lot on the line for Netflix as the streaming wars continue, offering its biggest stars the right pay is just one way to hold onto talent and keep itself ahead of the game.
