Several characters, including Barty Crouch Jr. and Sirius Black, have escaped Azkaban’s walls. Several characters have also committed crimes for which they should have been imprisoned but have avoided any legal consequences and avoided spending time in Azkaban.
Fenrir Greyback
Greyback was one of the series’ most evil Death Eaters. He seemed to accept his werewolf status, unlike most other afflicted wizards, attacking and deliberately infecting others.
Corban Yaxley
Yaxley only appeared in one of the films, but his actions here were enough to land him in Azkaban. After the minister for magic was murdered, he was one of the Death Eaters who helped take control of the ministry.
Draco Malfoy
While Draco did eventually redeem himself, he still committed several crimes. Draco Malfoy’s worst acts include bullying his peers, becoming a Death Eater, and nearly killing Katie Bell and Ron Weasley.
Peter Pettigrew
Throughout his life, Peter Pettigrew committed numerous crimes but received little retribution. Peter betrayed his friends to Voldemort, falsely accusing Sirius Black of murders he did not commit, and then impersonated the Weasleys’ pet rat.
Gilderoy Lockhart
In Harry’s second year at Hogwarts, Lockhart was his new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. Lockhart spent most of his time bragging about himself and his alleged heroic deeds as a teacher.
Severus Snape
Snape is one of the series’ most complicated characters, and he did a lot of bad things for the greater good. While he had always supported Dumbledore, some of Snape’s most egregious errors altered the course of the series.
Narcissa Malfoy
Narcissa had no choice but to join Lord Voldemort because refusing would have resulted in her and her son’s deaths. She was not under the imperious curse when she joined Voldemort’s side at the Battle of Hogwarts, and she acted of her own volition.
Blaise Zabini
Blaise is one of the few characters in the movies who is likely more critical than the books. She took over as Draco’s second sidekick after Crabbe was cut from the final film and Goyle was killed in his place.
Lord Voldemort
Voldemort has never been imprisoned in Azkaban, despite being the most famous dark wizard of all time. Even as a young Tom Riddle, the dark wizard was powerful enough to earn a place in the prison.
Harry Potter
Harry may be the series’ protagonist, but an essential aspect of his character is that he isn’t entirely suitable, especially given that he has a piece of Voldemort inside. Although the films omitted details about Unforgivable Curses, they made using them was illegal.
