It appears that HBO Max’s upcoming Harry Potter reunion special, Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, will contain a lot of surprises.

Director David Yates, who directed Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, reveals to People that Emma Watson considered quitting the franchise due to the pressures of rising fame.

Watson, for one, talks about reading a diary entry from around that time in which she felt extremely alone. She tells co-star Rupert Grint, “I think I was scared.” “I’m not sure if you’ve ever felt like it reached a point where you thought to yourself, ‘This is going to take forever now.’ Something similar had finally sunk in.”

And Grint expressed a similar sentiment. He said, “I had moments like that all the way through.” “I had similar thoughts to Emma, pondering what life would be like if I called it a day, but we never really discussed it.”

“We were just going at our own pace, I guess. We were in a good mood at the time. They hadn’t realized we were all experiencing the same emotions.”

Harry Potter himself — or, more precisely, Daniel Radcliffe — echoed Grint’s sentiments about the young cast’s apprehensions about superstardom.

He explained, “We never talked about it on the film because we were all just kids.” “‘Hey, how are you doing?’ I would never say to another 14-year-old boy as a 14-year-old. ‘Does everything seem to be in order?’”
