For almost thirty years, the Harry Potter series has been luring people into the wizarding world, enchanting millions with the magic of Hogwarts and its gifted inhabitants in one way or another. The most exciting part of the franchise is the ease of connecting with the four Hogwarts houses: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff.
Slytherin is the most “evil” of the four houses, but it is much more than that. Some of the series’ most powerful witches and wizards live in the green and silver house, including a young fan favorite who repented himself and the most famous wizard of all time.

Umbridge made her début in Order of the Phoenix as a particularly vicious Ministry employee who would later take the post of Defense Against The Dark Arts teacher. She is perhaps the most reviled Harry Potter figure of all time. Despite working for the wizarding government, she wasn’t afraid to use the Dark Arts to acquire what she wanted, including casting the Cruciatus curse and using Veritaserum to obtain information.

Umbridge was even capable of summoning a corporeal Patronus when in possession of Slytherin’s Locket, which assumed the appearance of a Persian cat and assisted her in keeping Dementors at bay while she interrogated Muggle-borns.

9. Regulus Black repented for his crimes by stealing a Horcrux

Regulus, Sirius’ younger brother, had loved Voldemort since he was a child and leaped at the chance to join the Death Eaters as soon as he finished his magical education. He was the Seeker for the Slytherin squad at Hogwarts and was a very gifted flyer.

Regulus’s excellent knowledge of evil magic enabled him to realize his master’s objectives for developing multiple Horcruxes after serving Voldemort for nearly a year. After being horrified by Voldemort’s acts, he went out to destroy the Horcrux with Kreacher’s help, but he died when the cave’s Inferi caught up with him.

8. Draco Malfoy Was The Most Skilful Slytherin Of His Generation

Draco became Harry’s school archenemy when his offer of friendship was turned down during their first year, doing everything he could to bring the Golden Trio into trouble whenever the opportunity arose. Later, as his father’s replacement, he joined the Death Eaters, making him the sole person of his generation to join Voldemort’s ranks.
Draco was a strong duellist who improved his talents under his aunt Bellatrix’s instruction. He was a proficient pioneer and flyer, reaching NEWT level in Potions and making it onto the Slytherin Quidditch squad. During the Second Wizarding War, he honed his Dark Arts and magical repair skills to the point where he could fix the Vanishing Cabinet in the Room of Requirement on his own.

7. Two of Voldemort’s most deadly followers were the Carrows

Alecto and Amycus Carrow, siblings, were two of Voldemort’s most ruthless servants, enjoying tormenting people they held captive. They not only made it through the First Wizarding War reasonably undamaged, but they also returned to their Master seventeen years later and survived the Battle of Hogwarts.

The Carrows made it a point to exercise their influence over the student population after arriving at Hogwarts as professors and Deputy Headmasters. They routinely employed the Unforgivable Curses on them. They were capable duellists as high-ranking Death Eaters frequently deployed on urgent missions like the Battle of the Astronomy Tower in Half-Blood Prince.

6. Before losing Voldemort’s trust, Lucius Malfoy was Voldemort’s lieutenant

Lucius served as Voldemort’s second-in-command among his most significant supporters before totally losing his trust at the end of Order of the Phoenix. He was a seasoned Dark wizard most known for inflicting the Imperius Curse on several Ministry employees to obtain inside information and control the wizarding community.

Lucius was a significantly less savage dueller than his fellow Death Eaters, preferring efficiency and elegance over irreversible damage. Lucius and his family escaped Azkaban after both wizarding wars because of two of his most potent non-magical assets: his acting skills and intellect, but he did spend some time in prison in 1995.

5. Dolohov was the Death Eaters’ most potent and skilled duelist

Dolohov was Voldemort’s most influential and faithful male Death Eater, and he was always present for high-profile missions such as the Battle of the Department of Mysteries. Remus Lupin and Molly Weasley’s twin brothers, Gideon and Fabian Prewett, were among the many equally skilled wizards he assassinated.
Dolohov was notorious for his sadistic inclinations, openly relishing injuring Hermione in Order of the Phoenix. Even after being trapped under the Silencio charm, he was still powerful enough to unleash significant nonverbal pleasures. He was also capable of fighting many people at once, holding his own against a team of Aurors.

4. Bellatrix was the scariest dark witch of her time

With her zeal to obey her lord and battling talents, Bellatrix was quickly the most formidable witch in Voldemort’s arsenal, exceeding many of her male counterparts. Bellatrix was a skilled Occlumens and could defend herself against mental attacks and be able to employ the Unforgivable Curses with ease.

Bellatrix, like Dolohov, had no trouble fighting against multiple wizards at the same time. Her mastery of the Cruciatus Curse, which she memorably unleashed on Neville’s parents and Hermione, made her a menace on par with Voldemort, whom she claimed had taught her the Dark Arts himself. She managed to assassinate several of the Order of the Phoenix’s most influential members, including her cousin Sirius and niece Tonks.

3. Snape possessed a power that none of the other Death Eaters had

Snape was one of the most skilled wizards of his period, yet he was a contentious character among fans of the series. Though his peers neglected him, he had been gifted since an early age, with a particular affinity for Potions and the Dark Arts before ever enrolling at Hogwarts and even crafting his spells once there. Snape was also a highly competent Legilimens and Occlumens, allowing him to shield his thoughts from Voldemort while working for the Order of the Phoenix as a double agent.
Despite his lack of Quidditch skills, Snape was a competent flyer who had mastered flying without using a broomstick, a skill that only Voldemort possessed. Snape’s ability to love distinguished him from the other Death Eaters. Because of his unrequited passion for Lily Evans, he made a Patronus, a silver doe that resembled Lily’s.

2.Voldemort Makes Horrible Things Happen With His Innate Power

Voldemort’s rank as Heir of Slytherin bestowed upon him a vast amount of intrinsic magical strength he had manifested since childhood. He sharpened his raw potential as he grew older and began attending school, and, as Ollivander noted in The Philosopher’s Stone, he managed to perform “awful, but magnificent things” before his departure. His charisma and leadership brought many power-hungry witches and wizards to his side for almost fifty years.

His various magical powers include speaking Parseltongue, Legilimency, commanding Inferi, unassisted flying, mastery of the Dark Arts, wandless and nonverbal magic, spell generation, and even immortality (through his invention of the Horcruxes). Although becoming the most powerful Dark wizard of all time, Voldemort was unable to overcome love, the purest form of magic, due to a misinterpretation of it.

The Harry Potter series established Merlin as the world’s most potent and experienced sorcerer, based on the real-life legend of King Arthur. After being sorted into the Slytherin house, Merlin started his studies at Hogwarts, where Salazar Slytherin tutored him.

Merlin was a master of all forms of magic, but he was incredibly skilled in charms, earning him the “Prince of Enchanters.” A skeptic of the Dark Arts, Merlin advocated for magical-Muggle cooperation and spread his ideas far. His legacy would impact the wizarding world far into the twentieth century, with wizards using his name in everyday conversation and bestowing the Order of Merlin honor on its most accomplished members.
