It’s almost time for Friends star Matthew Perry’s tell-all book to come out, and ahead of time, he’s already spilling secrets about his life in interviews. While promoting his memoir, Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing, with People Magazine, the 53-year-old spoke about his relationship with his former co-stars and revealed a little something that had only been rumored before.
Of course, fans know that this memoir is huge for Perry, as he’s coming clean about a lot of stuff that has been in the tabloids over the years. He’ll also get vulnerable about his struggles with addiction and his sobriety.
In this new interview, Perry only had good things to say about the Friends cast, saying that the actors were “understanding” and “patient” while he dealt with his Vicodin addiction. He also shared that he had a crush on Jennifer Aniston, who played Rachel Green in the sitcom.
Sources have claimed that Perry did have feelings for Aniston while they were filming Friends, but fans figured that was just gossip. It’s funny to hear the actor come clean about it now, all these years later! So why did he give up on dating her?
“There was such severe indifference from her that I ended it,” Perry joked. “I think everybody probably figured it out. I never said anything. And I hid it. But then she married Brad Pitt, and I was like, ‘I don’t think I have a chance here.’”
Perry’s crush on Aniston during Friends wasn’t the only instance of romantic feelings on set. As Aniston and co-star David Schwimmer admitted during the Friends reunion special in 2021, they actually had a crush on each other. The two actors played love interests, Rachel and Ross Geller, on the show. Apparently, they never acted on their feelings.
