Daniel Radcliffe, who shot to fame as a child actor, has revealed he does not want the same for his own future children.

The actor, 33, became a household name at just 11 years old when he was cast as the lead character in the Harry Potter franchise.

But he has opened up about how his own struggles with childhood fame have coloured the way he intends to parent his kids one day.

Speaking to Newsweek, Daniel said: ‘I want my kids, if and when they exist…I would love them to be around film sets. A dream would be for them to come onto a film set and be like “God, you know, I’d love to be in the art department. I’d love to be something in the crew.” Some part of this, but not from that.’

However, the Brit said that while he ‘clearly’ still enjoys acting, he insisted: ‘I wouldn’t want fame for my kid.’

While, Daniel admitted there were advantages to growing up in the film industry, he added that the stardom that came with it should be ‘avoided at all costs’.

He said: ‘I think if you can get a situation where you’re on film sets without necessarily [thinking] oh, this is gonna be a big deal in your life, that’s great.

‘Film sets are wonderful places. I think a lot of the time it can be wonderful for kids. But it’s really the fame side of it that should be avoided at all costs.’

Daniel has been open about using alcohol to cope with his early fame, saying he felt  ‘watched’ excessively.

He explained to Off Camera host Sam Jones: ‘In my case, the quickest way to forget about the fact that you’re being watched is to get very drunk.

‘And then as you get very drunk, you become aware that “Oh, people are watching more now because now I’m getting very drunk, so I should probably drink more to ignore that more.”’

He has now been sober since 2010 and credits his friend with helping him stop drinking.

But he added: ‘Ultimately, it was my own decision. Like I woke up one morning after a night going like, “This is probably not good.”‘

Daniel has been in a relationship with Erin Darke for almost a decade, after they met on the 2013 film Kill Your Darlings.
