Donatella Versace is the one person you can always count on to spice up fashion month. The designer knows how to get people excited about a collection and break the internet. Because of this, many of the biggest stars in entertainment show up on her runways. After bringing Jennifer Lopez out to celebrate the 20th anniversary of her plunging green Grammys dress during the spring 2020 show and reuniting the supermodels in spring 2018, Versace set a high standard for special guests. But she showed another surprise today. Dua Lipa, whose songs are at the top of the charts, walked out in the first look of Versace’s spring 2022 show. Lipa looked right at home next to Versace regulars like Gigi Hadid, Irina Shayk, and Precious Lee in a sexy power suit with cutouts and the brand’s signature safety pins.
Lipa has been a Versace fan for a long time. She’s been on billboards with the La Greca logo because she’s the current face of the brand’s advertising, but she’s more than just a spokesperson. Most of the outfits that Lipa and her stylist Lorenzo Posocco choose for her red carpet appearances are designed by Donatella. She likes the slinky clothes and how Versace focuses on empowering women and making new designs. “Working so closely with Donatella and getting to know her through our mutual love of fashion has been surreal,” Lipa said in June when the campaign photos came out.
Lipa wasn’t the only famous person to walk the runway today, though. Casting director Piergiorgio Del Moro put in a lot of well-known people. Whether it was Lourdes Leon in a liquid metal dress like the one her mother Madonna wore in Versace’s 1995 Steven Meisel-shot campaign or Naomi Campbell in a H pink pantsuit, the show got better and better and gave Milan its most talked-about moment yet.
