At the turn of the millennium, Jennifer Lopez broke the internet when she wore a jungle-print Versace gown to the Grammys. The moment reportedly inspired the launch of Google Images, given the search traffic of users wanting to glimpse Lopez’s divisive look.
Fast-forward over two decades and we’re now able to revisit that gown – and her many other galvanising red carpet appearances – with ease. Indeed, J Lo’s style has remained largely unchanged: she’s stuck to the same style formula, favouring looks with the wow-factor silhouette of her viral Versace dress.
Proving that she looks just as good at 52 as she did in her 30s, Lopez took to the stage at the iHeartRadio Music Awards in not one, but four arresting looks. As she accepted the Icon Award, she wore a sheer khaki Stéphane Rolland couture gown, featuring a breezy, diaphanous skirt and plunging neckline that – like her Versace gown – gathered at her waist with a brooch closure.
This isn’t the first time she’s recreated her famous 2000 Grammys moment. At the beckoning call of Donatella Versace, Lopez wore a new take on the tropical printed dress on the Italian fashion house’s spring/summer 2020 runway.
Last year, she opted for a similarly low-cut neckline for her red carpet debut with old flame Ben Affleck, with whom she rekindled her romance last year. The singer-actor glowed in a pristine-white gown by Georges Hobeika, encrusted with Swarovski crystals.
All these years later, it’s clear that J Lo still can’t get enough of a plunging silhouette – and who can blame her? As the adage goes, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
